The Friends of the Library are Seeking Candidates for Board of Directors

The Friends are seeking candidates from the greater Lewes area to serve a three-year appointment on the Board of Directors.  Interested individuals must be a current member of the Friends of the Lewes Public Library.  To be considered, please send a completed application by Friday, June 7, 2013 to:

The purpose of the Friends Board of Directors is to promote the library and help raise funds for its use such purchasing lending materials including books, sponsoring performances, and enhancing the Children's Program.  Meetings are held every other month.

Cooking with Lewes Friends:
A Collection of Recipes by the Friends of the Lewes Public Library

Cooking with Lewes Friends is now available at the library! In addition to the 350 recipes from Lewes restaurants and 200 individuals across the Cape Region, the cookbook also showcases organizations and iconic features of Lewes.

The cover art, an original watercolor painting, depicts the bi-annual book sale. Photographs from Kevin Fleming, Ron MacArthur and the Lewes Historical Society are complemented by descriptions of Lewes features. This is a book that will delight locals and visitors alike. It makes a great gift and is a “must have” for every cook’s collection.

The cost of the cookbook is $20.00. All proceeds benefit the Library. You can purchase copies of this beautiful cookbook at the library Circulation Desk during regular business hours with either cash or a check payable to the Friends of the LPL.

You also can purchase copies online for pick up at the library or have them mailed to you.

The Friends of the Lewes Public Library is a separate 501c(3) affiliate of contributing members who support library services by organizing and sponsoring various projects including:

Annual Membership Drive:

The Annual Membership drive is conducted by the Friends beginning in June and July of each year. Since the Friends and the library function on a July 1 to June 30 fiscal year, this is the appropriate time of year for the drive to be held. However, memberships are accepted at any time during the year.

Annual Book Sales :

Book Sales are always held 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on the first Saturday of May and the Saturday of Labor Day weekend. Friends members may receive an invitation to a Book Sale preview night prior to the public opening of the book sales.

 

Donations of books and other material

  1. Books (both hardcover and paperback) and audiovisual materials in good condition will be accepted, including but not limited to local history materials and foreign language books. Encyclopedias, computer manuals, textbooks, Reader's Digest books and magazines cannot be accepted.
  2. Books must be in good condition; e.g., not missing covers or pages, not marked up, free of mold, pages not torn, etc.
  3. With the exception of gift plates and letters of acknowledgment, which are permitted, books and other donations should be unrestricted and free of any conditions of use or circulation.
  4. Books donated will first be evaluated for addition to the Library's general collection.  The Library reserves the right to sell or otherwise dispose of donated books which are not added to the general collection.
  5. Upon request, a written acknowledgment of the donation will be provided if the donor supplies (i) his or her name and ii) the number and condition (excellent, good or fair) of hard and soft cover books for which an acknowledgement is requested.
  6. Due to IRS regulations, Library staff cannot provide an appraisal or any other sug­gestion of valuation for a donation.
  7. Any question which arises concerning the disposition of proffered books and material should be referred to the Director of the Lewes Public Library.
