
Library Director Lewes, Delaware is a Mid-Atlantic, vibrant, historical beach community with a small town ambience. The Lewes Public Library is seeking an Executive Director. The successful candidate must have a Masters in Library Science, Sociology, Business Administration, or the equivalent of any one of these degrees. The successful candidate must also have a minimum of five years’ experience in a supervisory role and in dealing with personnel and the public. The Library is currently conducting a Needs Assessment to determine whether expansion or construction of a new building will best serve its patrons. Knowledge of facility development and fund-raising would be definite assets. The new director will be working closely with an active and motivated Board of Directors and must administer that board’s policies. The candidate will be asked, from time to time, to make policy recommendations to the board. The director is responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff, which at the present time consists of four full-time employees and ten part-time employees. This experienced, professional staff includes several MLS and other Master degrees. The director deals with city, county and state officials. In dealing with civic organizations, a background in event programming would be an asset A thorough knowledge of theory, trends and management in library science is a requirement, as is experience in maintenance and continual development of our literary collection. This collection includes materials for all ages and various media. A solid background in budgeting is required and a basic understanding of auditing procedures would be helpful. Advanced computer skills are required, as well as knowledge of database management.
